SINGLE REVIEW: 'Tell Me' | St Buryan

"I listened to the upcoming track and MATE I was just like "BLOW ME" because it was so amazing" - me, raving about my first listen of this single to a friend, and developing a newfound love for St. Buryan.

The Newcastle based indie/pop-rock quintet, made up of Ben Mackett, Nathan Gooch, Callum Palmer, Jacob Mallon and Rhys Melhuish, are set to release their new track, Tell Me, on Friday 28th, kicking their 2020 action.

The boys don't waste any time before they blow us away - the song begins powerfully and it is a strong single from start to finish, as it takes on a very Foals-esque indie set-up, which is new territory for the boys. The track features groove-ridden basslines and infectious choruses, and these combined with powerful vocals help make the track a live favourite. Lyrically, the track explores the immediate aftermath of a broken down relationship, and an ex-partner lashing out after a rejection of the infamous "booty call," this being portrayed by the starting line "we're sorry, the number you have dialled is not in service at this time." The protagonist of the track is very passive-aggressive in their words, telling the ex "tell me you're feeling lonely, as if I care." It's intense, it's upbeat, it's relatable - we've all felt like this at some point in our lives, right? - and it's a bloody banger, to be honest with you.

We all know Newcastle's scene is absolutely thriving, and it's bringing about some of the biggest and best names in the UK. I want to add St. Buryan to that list. They've received endless support from BBC Introducing and BBC 6 Music, and have been featured on international radio stations and blogs, getting their sound known worldwide. The biggest thing we can do to help bands like this get to the top of that list is support them in little ways: pre-order and pre-save their music, buy tickets to their gigs - they're never expensive, so what are you waiting for? - and buy a t-shirt while you're there. Even if you don't spend any money on the,. share their social media posts about, catch other people's attention, spread the word. Us fans play a big part in the progression of our favourite local bands, and it's usually the most underrated ones that are the most talented - at least, that's the case for St. Buryan.

Speaking of gigs, and of supporting your faves, the boys are supporting the fab Dancing On Tables on the 11th March. Only two weeks away! If you live in or around the area, then I think it's a very good idea for you to get off your arses, get on your feet, and go dance to some pretty damn good music.

The band are setting themselves up for their biggest, busiest and best year to date; they've two more singles ready to follow Tell Me over the coming months, eventually building up to the launch of an EP later in the year. It's bloody exciting and you need to jump on the ride now; you could be missing out on something massive.
