SINGLE REVIEW: 'Into Colour' | Slye

Music is constantly being released; almost daily there's a new track out from a band I like, but I think this piece I'm here to tell you about today is my absolute favourite. UK-based Slye is definitely a breath of fresh air in today's music scene, as he combines the infectious, visceral grooves from artists like Prince, Sly Stone and Funkadelic, with the introspective lyricism and melodies of modern indie and contemporary R&B, with the intensity of alt-rock. Slye produces music that is listened to by fans of Allen Stone, St. Vincent, and Tom Misch.

Slye has just released his new fusion, Into Colour, and bloody hell I am addicted. The track is a bombastic indie-funk explosion, fuelled with intricate guitar riffs, swirling vocals and pop melodies that all conjoin to create a modern twist on a funk classic. He manages to utilise so many different elements of music and make them his own, creating what I can only describe to you as a work of art. It truly is that spectacular.

Throughout the track we embark on a journey with Slye, as the tight verses and lush choruses explore ideas of self knowledge and understanding. It explores the journey we make through a world of monochrome, and tells us that we must embrace both joy and pain in order to grow and embody the rich palette of colours that life has to offer us. Much like William Blake suggests we must suffer the harshest of winters before we can enjoy the summer. Into Colour pushes the conventional boundaries of pop music and offers an exciting sound, adding a pop of colour into the music industry.

Much like the single, the visual combines 60s/70s and modern imagery with a coherent aesthetic to encapsulate everything Slye is trying to communicate through this track. From the colours, to the dream-like sequences, it's all intended to manifest a feeling. The visuals are truly stunning and beautifully coincide with the track itself - it's bloody irresistible.

I'm not quite sure how I've never heard of Slye before, he definitely is one of the most underrated musicians on the scene right now. Big thank you to Holly from Steaming Kettle PR for introducing me to this absolute king. If there's only one thing you do today, make it listening to Into Colour.
