SINGLE REVIEW: 'Reflection' | ELLUR

It turns out the McNamara's are a talented bunch! A few months back I featured EEVAH's new track, Digital Heart, and the quartet include Richard McNamara. Today I'm here to tell you about the music of his daughter, Ella McNamara, who goes under the alias of ELLUR. Having been brought up in such a musical environment, Ella has been writing since the age of 11 and at only fourteen, she began to develop an interest in radio and film music, taking inspiration from her dad, Birdy, and Avril Lavigne.

ELLUR is set to release her debut single, Reflection, on 24th Jan. The track has been in progress for over a year, trying to make it sound the best debut she possibly can. With a mix of electronic and real instrumentals, and a prominent focus on harmonic vocals, Ella has created a floaty, dream-pop vibe song. The track is, musically, heavily influenced by the likes of HAIM and Billie Eilish, who create powerful vocals with strong vocals. Personally, though, Reflection goes a lot deeper. It's a metaphor for the deterioration of self when in a toxic relationship. Being in an unhealthy relationship is often when people lose the sense of who they are, which they're chasing to find through the other person. Ella has written this track as a result of her own growth after being in negative situations herself. This song gives me very EEVAH vibes, the quick paced instrumentals and powerful vocals to match give off a similar tone.

A student at Leeds College of Music, ELLUR is making bonds and forming connections through her studies. Mostly a solo writer, she is looking to collaborate with other artists in 2020 - so, musicians, check her out! You don't want to miss out. An EP is currently in the works and a few things have already been lined up for this year...

"I'm just excited for it to finally be out, I've been waiting for this moment for a very long time."
