SINGLE REVIEW: 'The Key of Innocence' | Enjoyable Listens

London based duo Luke Duffett and Jamie Maurice have been creating music under the alias of Enjoyable Listens for just over a year, but it's only in the past months that they've found their niche. The name of this act does exactly what it says on the tin: the things we're listening to are very much enjoyable. 2019 was kind to the pair, as they embarked on a tour and developed "a small, but devoted and growing ecosystem of fans."

2020's not been too bad for them, either, as Enjoyable Listens have released three singles between May and now; the latest being The Key of Innocence, a strangely compelling track that evokes a pleasant feeling in listeners' minds. Giving me very David Bowie vibes, this track has a very coming-of-age feel to it; you can see yourself listening to it underneath a sunset, or accompanying you on a long drive, as the atmospheric grooves allow you to melt into the music.

On the single, Duffett himself says "it's a song about the beauty of the unspoilt conscience and the simplicity of faith," and - not to get all English student on you - this description reminds me a lot of William Blake's Innocence vs Experience; how when we're young and inexperienced, our minds are clueless of the horrors of the world - this once again fits with the pleasant, reminiscent way we feel from listening to this track.

The Key of Innocence is three minutes of utter bliss.
