SINGLE REVIEW: 'Not The Same Anymore' | Red Shakes

Following the disbanding of Bradford-based garage-rock band Railroads back in the Autumn, frontman Sam DaSilva is pursuing his own music career under the alias of Red Shakes. The debut single, Not The Same Anymore, is to be released Friday 24th. Taking a very different stance to the music he used to produce, I was surprised when I listened to it through for the first time. DaSilva has created a quick paced, fun indie song, and I love it. At only 18 years old, there is some immense talent being put forward, and he's fortunate enough to have already gathered a little fan base as those who supported Railroads are going on to support him - it's definitely well deserved.

A reminiscent song, Red Shakes goes back to the 'good old days' and misses that nobody "goes out and buys records" or "sits around to watch the sunsets." Modern life is a killer - we're all so technology obsessed that we often forget about the outside world. This track is a dig at modernity and it's done in a bouncy way, but most of all Sam's trying to spread a message: go outside, go do your shopping, get out of your little personal bubble every once in a while and live your life.

Jumpy, upbeat guitars and gratifying lyrics come together to form a strong debut; 2020 is looking good for this lovely lad.

Red Shakes is headlining Bradford's The Underground on 24th April 2020 and will be joined by Supermarket Police, The Orchids, and Currently Nothing.
