SINGLE REVIEW: 'Love Deprived' | Mollie Coddled
Hailing from the north, Mollie Coddled is a Dreampop artist based in Leeds, who records and produces all of her songs in her bedroom; this immediately helps make her music feel more intimate and heartfelt. Inspiration comes from all over, but mostly from Hip-Hop, LoFi and Jazz music - combining wispy vocals with soft instrumentals, Coddled's sound is entirely unique and not one to be missed.
Coddled released her debut single, Honey, in July 2018 and she was immediately recognised, being invited to BBC Introducing for a live session - Jericho Keys described this as "the quickest turnaround of a new artist coming in for a session in our history." Since this first release, her sound has been compared to the likes of Clairo, Boy Pablo and Rex Orange County.
After so long without music, Coddled is back and releasing her second single, Love Deprived, on the 10th January. This track is made up of very Melanie Martinez-esque vocals; the softness and slightly throaty element emphasises this, giving the song a more emphatic and emotional feel. Slightly different to her other singles - but a good kind of better, the progression in Coddled's work is clear - Love Deprived is a powerful start and everybody's excited to see where it takes her. Mollie is currently working on her first EP which is scheduled to be released in the spring of 2020, which compliments her SoundCloud projects and debut single with jazzy chords and mellow beats.
