SINGLE REVIEW: 'Talk Slow' | Myriam Adams
Myriam Adams are back after what feels like no time at all, as it's only been two months since they released their previous single. If you're unfamiliar with this band and want to know a bit more about them and their tracks then you can read the review I wrote of I Want to Go Home here.
Tomorrow (December 2nd) the boys are releasing Talk Slow, a track I've loved for a long time. If you follow Myriam Adams, or particularly vocalist Jacques, on Instagram then you'll know this is a song that's been in the making for a while. I heard it on a livestream about a year ago and I've since been asking the lads to release it - that time has finally come and Talk Slow is just past our fingertips. It's typical of me to say "this is their best work" about each new track I review, but I suppose it is the goal of a band to make each new song the next best thing. This is one of their best works, though; I'm torn between this and Lost In Vain.
Hete has a magical voice. He shows emotion and passion and Myriam Adams' tracks make you feel all sorts of things at once, fluctuating from a high to a low just in the moments between the verse and the chorus. I put up an Instagram story stating "some sleep on their backs, some state their sides, but you've all been sleeping on Myriam Adams," and I still stand by that. This band have so much unrecognised talent, they put their absolute all into their songs and their shows, and videos have shown me their stage presence is incredible.
The band's first EP was very self indulgent and spoke about a past relationship, and Talk Slow came about at a time when Hete realised how toxic said relationship was. It's a general reflection on the minds of teenagers in terms of feelings and love - everything tends to be more passion driven and less logical. The track is a self-realisation that's based on the actions of others; Hete told me "I only realised how my mind was working when I saw other people do the same things I did."
Early 2020 Myriam Adams are planning on releasing their sophomore EP. This track is said to be the most important from the EP and most representative of the meaning threaded throughout. Before said EP, though, the boys have a headline gig at Birmingham's The Flapper on Thursday 19th December, which is going to be their most important show to date. Don't miss out.
