SINGLE REVIEW: 'Amsterdam' | James Hartley

Kastella, one of my favourite up and coming indie bands, disbanded a few weeks ago after a good few years of being together. Each member has moved onto new projects of their own, but the endeavour I'm most excited for is that of Manchester based James Hartley, Kastella's lead vocalist. He's been making music of his own for a while and the anticipation of an announcement has been overwhelming for fans that've followed him on. Hartley finally revealed that his debut single, Amsterdam, is going to be released on 6/12.

Taking huge inspiration from the legend that is Liam Gallagher and still providing us with some of that old Kastella charm, Amsterdam is a real banger. A feelgood, indie-rock track that I can't get enough of. Hartley's voice is passionate yet at the same time soothing, and one I could listen to for hours on end. With an upbeat, catchy chorus, Hartley combines guitar-heavy instrumentals with lightweight vocals and has created a tune you can't help but head bop to.

Also taking inspiration from 90s indie bands such as The Verve and Oasis, alongside the likes of Cage The Elephant, Hartley has combined aspects from each of his inspirations and added his own modern twist. The final product is an upbeat track that'll get rid of those winter blues!
