SINGLE REVIEW: 'Slip Away' | For You The Moon
For fans of Neck Deep, Don Broco, and BMTH - amo era - Leeds' For You The Moon are a pop-rock quartet of twenty-something's with a hell of a lot of passion. Initially a bedroom band with no specific direction, FYTM spent a lot of time under the radar before announcing their name to the world - "we didn't want to jump the gun... before we knew what we wanted the band to be and look like." As a result of this the band only played their first gig at Leeds' The Lending Room over the summer and there hasn't been a large quantity of gigs since - the gigs that have been played, though, have been received extremely well and the support has overwhelmed the boys!
The band have just released their debut single, Slip Away, and what a way to start the new month! I was having a chat with vocalist Isaac Cooter and he gave me a detailed insight into the track. It's an angry, resentful, yet apologetic song all at once, written about the end of a relationship. It's almost like the breakup occurs during the song, as one minute "I can feel you slipping away," as the significant other is still about, and the next "I know that you know I tried but can't love you the same." Cooter told me "we were trying to encapsulate the moment when you realise that someone you once loved isn't going to be in your life any longer."
Quite an existential track - "there's nothing going right in my life right now and I blame it on the world" - FYTM intertwine pop song lyrics with rock song instrumentals to create an addictive, catchy tune for us all to relate to, as we all just want "someone to be there," and an audience of teens/young adults will have experienced a situation such as the one narrated in this track.
Releasing a debut track always puts a lot of pressure on artists - those initial 3 minutes create people's first impressions of you. Personally, I think the boys have smashed it. I hope everyone else thinks this too and they get the recognition they deserve!
