SINGLE REVIEW: 'Overthinking' | Will Killen

"I'm so over overthinking." Me too, Will. Me too.

Autumn 2019 is about to be taken over. Leeds-based singer-songwriter, music producer and guitarist Will Killen creates beautiful but brutally honest acoustic ballads, utilizing only a few sounds to paint pictures of love, loss and mental health. Following the release of two self-produced pieces of work over the last two year - In My Arms and Write You Out - Killen is set to release the mesmerising new single Overthinking in November and, with the help of Monomyth Records, this stunning, lo-fi melody is going to take the world by storm.

Killen has stated many a time that his tracks come from personal experience and Overthinking is a stream of consciousness based on the story that is his life, and the development of his lyrical content has been described by Will as both "torture and therapy." His tracks are personable and connect with listeners, making us aware that even the most collected of people struggle sometimes. With the rise in mental health awareness, especially in males, the industry is being filled with tracks containing motifs of mental health and personal struggle. It's admirable and courageous, the honesty and raw emotions coming from artists.

Personally I find this track empowering. It's a confrontation. Killen is standing up for himself - this being portrayed through the lyrics "you only seem to want what you can't have, so this time I'm not coming back" - and it makes me want to stand up for myself, too. I'd never heard of the name 'Will Killen' before I was approached by the lovely man himself, but having listened to Overthinking and his other pieces of music, I think there's some true talent here that more people need to be made aware of.

The track will be released on the 8th November.
