SINGLE REVIEW: 'Digital Heart' | EEVAH
Leeds based four-piece EEVAH - comprising of vocalist Nicole Hope Smith, guitarist Richard McNamara, bassist Chris Hall and drummer Cameron Spence - began in early 2019 in the form of a classic 80s electro-pop duo, weaving ethereal guitars and catchy pop hooks around epic synths and pre-programmed beats. Having released two singles as this duo, the two began honing their live show back in May. In October, though, they returned as a quartet, playing a taste of what's to come at Leeds' Lending Room. The four are releasing their new single Digital Heart on 22nd November and it'll be accompanied by a lyric video akin to their first release, Can't Breathe. A few weeks ago this new track got a spin on BBC Introducing and this exposure was very exciting for the band.
Intertwining alt/rock instrumentals with Smith's soft, floaty vocals, Digital Heart is a fusion of sounds and ideas coming together to form a melodic track with a vivacious tone. The song is based around the side effects of social media, breakups, and far too much booze! With a little Dutch courage everyone turns into a keyboard warrior and becomes more confident. EEVAH explained to me that the 'digital hearts' are those of the thousands of couples that meet online, and the ambiguity in said relationships. People can say anything and create a façade online, and nobody every truly knows who it is they're talking to. As well as being a brilliant track, Digital Heart also spreads a strong message that should be taken on board by listeners, especially since we're living in a world so focused on internet and social media.
