INTERVIEW: 'Hopefully we'll see you at Glastonbury in a few years' | Kar

I'm back with another interview and this time I spoke to Charlie Player, guitarist and vocalist of Kar. We discussed tracks, gigs, and the future!

First off, before we get into the single, let's start with a little bit about you! Who are Kar, and how and why did you start up?
We're a 3 piece alt-pop band from Bath, UK. We met at college and were put into a bad, given an assignment to write, record & mix a song, and that's how our debut single was born!

You mention your debut single, Anything At All, was it always the plan did that first or did you release anything else as a contender?
Once we finished the track we'd not thought anything through properly. Being a track we recorded for school we decided to just chuck it out there and see what happened and the reaction we received was overwhelming. After hitting 1500 streams we thought we should record another tune and maybe take this music thing a bit more seriously

Now we have On Our Own, a beautiful, smooth track. What inspired you to write it?
On Our Own is a message to the person who has stuck by you through everything: good or bad. Things are everchanging throughout our lives but it's important to stick together and support each other in every way we can.

How long did it take you to put the single together?
After playing around with some simple chords we spent a few days writing some lyrics, working on harmonies and tightening the structure. We finished the writing process and spent many, many hours perfecting the song instrumentally. As soon as we found out we'd been accepted by MAS Records we knew that On Our Own would be our next single, so we got on with practicing it until we felt it was ready to be recorded. We eventually went into the studio with our producer Josh and it was all recorded in just under 8 hours, then once he had the final mix we started planning the release. Altogether we spent about four months on this tune and we've loved every second of it.

Do you have any gigs coming up that my readers should know about?
Nothing as of yet but we're looking to book a few more gigs very soon, so all we can say is keep your eyes peeled ;).

What's in the future for Kar?
To be honest we've no idea what the future holds for us, but we're definitely going to be releasing a few more singles and eventually an EP. Stay tuned for all of it and hopefully we'll see you at Glastonbury in a few years.
